How to Make Your Security System Worthless…

A key concept of home or business security systems is that they communicate to a 'Central Office' via a phone line. If I were a burglar - what prevents me from cutting your phone line?  Does your phone line have an outside access panel? This is a question that you should know the answer to. If your phone lines are not secured outside of your home or business - how easy is it for a prospective thief to simply cut your phone lines prior to breaking in?

Of course, a well designed alarm system will have backups in the form of sirens - to sound the alarm even if there's no communication through the phone lines. For even if your phone lines don't have an outside access - during a power outage it's not inconceivable that you wouldn't have dial tone… so professionally installed systems always have backup sirens as well as keypad communication to the Central Office.

Sadly, many people don't consider the cost of a professionally installed alarm system as being the insurance that it is - and try 'do it yourself' installations. This often results in far less protection for your valuables than you deserve. Another common mistake is to find the '$99' special… usually a company with just a few employees who install cheap equipment, then 'sell' your monthly contract to a monitoring company in another state.

You should take the time to consider your security needs before you're burglarized, and not after, as so many people do. It's far less painful and expensive! Take the time to reconsider your security now - and you won't be facing the tremendous losses that a determined thief can impose on you.
