Home Alarm Systems - Do It Yourself?

Most people obviously want to control their expenses - don't spend the money if you don't have to, right?  So when deciding to setup a home alarm system - many people will run to Radio Shack, or some comparable store - and look at 'do it yourself' home alarm systems.

And if you're already a professional alarm installer - you should have very little difficulty putting together a fairly reasonable system that will enhance the security of your home.  But if you aren't already a proficient alarm installer - do you know what errors you might be making in the selection and installation of your home alarm?

If not properly sited, with proper equipment - your alarm system could conceivably be less than useless - and the money you saved by doing it yourself (rather than have a professional security company send trained techs to do the job) will be far outweighed by your first burglary.

For just as you are undoubtably a pro at what you do - so too are many burglars - they will spot poor alarm installations while casing your home - and a poorly designed 'do-it-yourself' installation won't deter a good burglar.

The cliche about being "Pennywise and Pound foolish" applies here.  At the very least, call your local home alarm system provider, and ask them to walk your premises, and give you a free quote.  They will know how your home should be protected - and although a professional installation will cost a tad bit more than that kit from Radio Shack, it will provide far more protection.  What are your possessions worth?
